Director and Head of Private Client Dominic Mackenzie has 25 years’ experience of dealing with people’s wills and probates across West Yorkshire and beyond.

He and his team are increasingly recommended based on the common-sense and value for money advice they deliver to their clients. With Ison Harrison now entrusted with over 55,000 wills for people across the Yorkshire region, it reflects their sought-after expertise in this field.

Dominic says: “Clients generally want to do things that they understand and are happy to pay for. Sadly the world is full of people who are selling will and estate planning products which are not appropriate for them. Often such products will not work and are sold at silly prices.”

At Ison Harrison we pride ourselves on plain speaking. We endeavour to give the clients the advice that they actually need and can follow at reasonable prices.

Most people have relatively simple circumstances. Therefore, they should be able to get by with making (hopefully) simple wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. We are often seeing people who have been sold products, often with a view to avoiding care costs, which have not been properly explained to them. We also see some eye-watering costs being charged.

As each client’s circumstances are different ,we offer a bespoke service for every client. We also find that our clients are generally very surprised by how reasonable our prices are.

You should not be charged excessive amounts for what should generally be very straightforward work.

Dominic adds that it should be very rare for a simple will to cost more than £175. For a more comprehensive service including wills, trust advice and Lasting Powers of Attorney a couple would normally expect to pay no more than £1,000, but often much less.

Everyone knows that it is important that you put the necessary planning in place. Yes, there can be complications.

However, an experienced and qualified solicitor should be able to assist you, give you peace of mind and not charge you the earth for doing so. It is also vital that you understand what you have put in place. If an adviser fails to explain everything that you are doing, then they are failing to do their job.

We make sure that all our clients understand and are happy with what they are doing and paying for!

For his part Dominic is delighted to be working in Wakefield City Centre for the first time in his career.

Dominic has lived and worked in Wakefield all his life and has seen countless clients in the Wakefield area and therefore excited to be working from our new office on Cross Street.
