Amity Brew Co, Farsley: 'I visited a rather splended taproom in Yorkshire which is undeniably welcoming'
There’s a sign by the door of Amity’s Farsley taproom that reads, “we’ve got blankets, ashtrays, highchairs and dog bowls.”
In other words, everyone is welcome.
And there is an undeniably welcoming vibe in this taproom, which sits at the heart of the wonderful Sunnybank Mills complex in Farsley, a few miles from Leeds.
If you haven’t been to Sunnybank Mills, a network of 19th century former mills transformed into a vibrant cultural hub with workshops, studios and event spaces, then I’d very much encourage you to go.

For if ever there’s a blueprint for how to galvanise old industrial buildings, then it’s this place.
The taproom itself is run by Amity Brew Co which was set up in 2020 and quickly gained plaudits, winning best pale ale in the SIBA Independent Beer Award three years later for its hazy Waterpistol pale ale.
With its lamplit exposed brick walls, comfortable leather-style sofas and retro looking tables and chairs, it’s an inviting space – one that on weekends, in particular, has a real buzz about it.
There’s an adjoining outside terrace overlooking the landscaped Weavers Yard, and you’re a few short yards from the Old Woollen – a popular venue that’s attracted the likes of The Wonder Stuff, The Wedding Present and Martin Kemp (whose 80s DJ sets went down particularly well with fans of a certain vintage, I’m reliably informed).
On the beer front, there’s an interesting and eclectic choice on cask and keg, including pale ales like Waterpistol and Weavers, a plum porter (Amethyst) and a glorious India pale lager (Mash Up), to mention just a few.
There’s also a hearty "beer food" menu that includes Italian American-inspired meatball subs, deep-fried mozzarella, and fried chicken.
They have a weekly quiz night and on the second and fourth Friday of every month they welcome in the Open Decks FC collective, when people can sign up and play some of their favourite records – another good reason to pay a visit to this rather splendid taproom.
