Shaun Rankin said: "What a surprise and delight it was to be awarded our first Michelin Star. I want to thank Michelin for believing in us and understanding what the restaurant at Grantley Hall is all about.

Sustainability and highlighting the incredible produce and suppliers around Yorkshire are of huge importance to me, which is why we try to source all ingredients from within a 30-mile radius and never from outside of the UK.

“I'm so glad that our efforts have paid off and Michelin can see just how good the produce is. I want to say a massive thank you to the owners of Grantley Hall. They have had an incredibly steadfast approach during these tricky times and their continued support is hugely appreciated.

“Finally, the biggest thank you has to go to the whole team, front and back of house. It seems odd not to be celebrating with a full service, however I'm itching to get back into the kitchen with them all. Here's to a better 2021, this has certainly lifted the spirits!"

Originally from Yorkshire, Shaun honed his skills at The Mayfair Hotel in London, after attending catering college at the Thames Valley University in Slough.

He returned to his hometown after three years in London, to assume the position of chef de partie at the Black Bull Inn in Moulton.

Shaun has spent much of his career in Jersey, eight years of which were dedicated to the Relais and Chateaux Hotel Longueville Manor. He opened his first restaurant as head chef, Bohemia in 2003, gaining a Michelin Star a mere two years later.

In 2013, after nine years at Bohemia, Shaun went on to open the much-awaited Ormer in Jersey, winning a Michelin Star only four months later. In 2016 he opened its sister restaurant, Ormer Mayfair, bringing the tastes and produce of Jersey to London.

Shaun authored the cookbook ‘Shaun Rankins’ Seasoned Islands’ in 2011, covering recipes inspired by the bounties of the Channel Islands. He is also a regular face on television, representing the southwest in BBC Two’s Great British Menu, which he won with his dish of treacle tart and Jersey clotted cream.

Having opened in July 2019 to critical acclaim, Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall has gone from strength to strength. Housed in a Grade II listed Palladian mansion in Ripon, Yorkshire, it is synonymous with its environment and the bounties of Yorkshire produce.

Shaun’s menus centre around locally grown and sourced ingredients including those from the hotel’s very own kitchen garden, and raw ingredients sourced within a 30-mile radius.

His signature tasting menu, A Taste of Home, takes inspiration from his formative years growing up in Yorkshire.
