For sale: Scarborough apartment with sensational sea views
Properties with sea views are prized but can be disappointing when you view them and realise that you have to crane your neck or even stand on a chair to catch a glimpse of the beautiful briny.
It’s why Rodney and Margaret Hardcastle’s apartment is a rare gem. It has one of the best sea views in Scarborough. The ever-changing outlook from the Georgian bow window is so captivating that the couple often eschew the delights of the town and stay put.

“It’s tranquil but it’s also a very entertaining vista. We see the surfers and watch the lifeboat crew doing their training and the sea and sky are always changing.”
The couple bought the property as a second home 12 years ago after an extensive search.
“We wanted a flat near to North Bay because it’s quieter and has easy access into the town. We wanted a lift, sea views and a good view from the rear. A lot of flats overlook ugly yards at the back.

Since buying the apartment, Mr and Mrs Hardcastle have updated the property with fresh decor and a new kitchen and bathroom.
“We love the apartment and will miss it so much but we now aren’t able to use it as much as we did, which is why we are selling,” says Mrs Hardcastle, whose main home is in York.
Converted into nine flats in 1991, grade II listed Kenwood House is on Queens Parade. It has a lift and private parking for residents.

It has an entrance hall and study area, sitting room, breakfast kitchen with dining area, two double bedrooms and a bathroom. The property is within walking distance of the town centre.
Estate agent Louise Hirst of Carter Jonas says: “This apartment has simply stunning views. It offers plenty of space and would work equally well as a full-time, low maintenance residence or as a rental property.”
*Kenwood House, Queens Parade, Scarborough, is open to view next weekend, on Saturday, April 14, between 11.30am and 12.30pm.
