Gardening jobs for the week ahead

Prick out or pot up all those seedlings before they grow long and leggy.

Start planting summer-flowering bulbs (pictured) if you haven’t already.

Deadhead spent daffodils – but don’t remove the foliage or tie it in knots. Let it die back naturally.

Plant evergreen shrubs and trees.

If the weather is favourable, sow or turf new lawns and feed established lawns with a combined fertiliser and weed killer.

Plan your summer hanging-baskets; plant them up later and keep them indoors until the threat of frost has passed.

Give your ponds a good clean.

Start weeding – ensure that perennial weeds are removed completely.
