Estate agents Carter Jonas describe Staveley Court, near Knaresborough, as a “true Georgian gem” and there is no hint of hyperbole in that statement. The Grade II listed property, which is on the market for £3.5m, has all the attributes that make Georgian architecture so special, including symmetry, space and large areas of glazing that deliver natural light and beautiful views into the home.

Owner Philippa Cook says: “One of the nicest things about this house is the windows because everywhere you look you have a view of the garden.”

She and her family bought Staveley Court four years ago after falling for the property and its location. It is a 10 minute drive from Knaresborough and Boroughbridge and is close to Harrogate and in easy travelling distance of York.

“It is a lovely village with a great local pub and a large nature reserve run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with bird hides, lakes and walks,” says Philippa.

The house was in tip top condition when the Cooks bought it but they have personalised it by adding colour to the white and cream walls with help from Farrow and Ball’s renowned paint chart. They have also splashed out on a Control 4 home automation system and superfast broadband.

The family is selling to relocate to the Lake District after lockdown made them realise they could run their business from home. “We love this house and have been very happy here. It was fantastic during lockdown because we had the garden, swimming pool and tennis courts and we never thought we would move. Then lockdown made us see that working from home was a possibility and we decided we would move to the Lake District because we all love boating,” says Philippa.
