Directors Oliver Addison and Chris Tingle take a hands-on approach to any build – and say the key to a quality finished product is taking ownership of the project from start to finish.

From initial design through to manufacture and installation, only the most skilled technicians get their hands on the staircase.

“For this type of work, the houses we tend to work in are quite often large and impressive and so require a staircase to match,” said Chris. “We have a small, specialist team of 11 experienced staff with more than 80 years’ experience between them, and it takes a long time to put a team together to do this sort of work; it is highly skilled, ” Oliver added.

“We do everything; we draw up the design that will give the house the biggest “wow” factor as that is what people generally want when you first walk through the front door into the hall — a magnificent staircase that takes the breath away.”

Every bit of the work is carried out by Westcliffe’s skilled team of craftspeople and is overseen by Oliver and Chris.

Based in Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire, Westcliffe is one of just a handful of specialist staircase makers in the country. What started nearly 30 years ago as a company making just timber staircases it now works with a huge variety of traditional and modern materials – including steel, stone and glass.

This gives the flexibility to create both traditional and contemporary styles, suitable to any age or style of home.

It takes about 12 weeks to complete the process from design to completed installation. The process begins with the client sharing their ideas and style which is then carefully honed using Westcliffe’s knowledge and expertise to ensure it is both practical and beautiful – blending perfectly with the character of the property whilst also achieving that breath-taking “wow” factor.

Clients are invited to visit the workshop, at any time during the project, and see the skilled craftsmen create the staircase that will soon take pride of place in their own home.
