The prestigious Yorkshire apartments up for sale for £10 million

It’s been almost two years since Adam Thorpe announced plans to turn Harrogate council’s former headquarters into Yorkshire’s most prestigious apartments carrying prices tags of between £3.5m and over £10m.

Now, after a series of delays that cast doubt on the viability of the £75m project, the developer says he is finally ready to put in a full planning application to transform the Art Deco building.

His company, Thorpe Group, is also staging a public consultation next Thursday, February 14, from 2pm - 7pm at Rudding Park, Harrogate. This will spell out his plans for the public space in front of the town centre building.

Mr Thorpe says he secured a council lease on the land in October last year.

How Crescent Gardens should look by 2021.

He says: “This is the last milestone and not only offers the public a vital opportunity to have their say as to how the redefined public open space works. This is the start of a very exciting journey, one which we are happy we can share with the public as well as our clients.”

Mr Thorpe said a full planning application for the building would be submitted “in the next few weeks” and he and construction partner Henry Boot hope to start work on Crescent Gardens in September this year and complete it by 2021.

Selling the properties, which will smash the ceiling price for luxury apartments in Yorkshire, does not seem to have been a problem.

Mr Thorpe reports that 10 of the 12 apartments have been reserved off-plan and one has sold for “comfortably above £10m” as the client wanted a number of apartments combined into one large dwelling.

One of the £10m penthouses has been reserved and the other has “attracted serious interest”.

All the homes will have a private lift to their underground “car house”.

“All the buyers have a link to Yorkshire, whether it be family, business or that they love the area,” says Mr Thorpe, who plans to create underground parking, an art gallery and a spa at Crescent Gardens.

A small number of spa memberships will be open to the public. “The spa area has been designed to create a really special space, taking inspiration from various wellness destinations in Palm Beach, Mallorca and Ibiza, as well as some in London, such as the Spa at The Lanesborough and Bvlgari Hotel,”says Mr Thorpe.
