This Nidderdale home with incredible views is for sale ... and it comes with its own bunkhouse

The Inside story on Longside House, Ramsgill, Price: £685,000 www.dacres.co.ukThis seven-bedroom property sits amid stunning Nidderdale scenery and comes with the option of having an income-generating home. While it was once a large family house and could be again, owner Matthew Ramsden has turned one end of the dwelling into a three-bedroom, self-contained property while the bulk of the period building is a successful bunkhouse that brings in about £60,000 a year.Matthew and his wife already run a popular bunk barn in Kilnsey and spotted the potential in Longside House.

“We saw it as an opportunity to build a business and sell it on, though the house could easily convert back to one large home. We simply blocked two corridors to create the separation,” says Matthew, who adds that the bunkhouse is much more luxurious than most and, rather than walkers, its market is large family groups.“We lived in Castleford when we bought our first bunk barn and then we saw potential in this house. It is an opportunity for a complete life change as £10,000 per year pays the bills for the property and the rest is income.

“It is a lovely lifestyle as running the bunkhouse isn’t labour intensive. Guests bring their own bedding and are asked to clean before they go. We go in after and clean again, which doesn’t take long.”The business, which includes the website, Nidderdale Bunkhouse brand, goodwill and the bookings is available by separate negotiation.

“It was always part of our business plan but we will be sad to go. This is an amazing place to live but we won’t be going far. We love the Nidderdale area so much we are planning to stay here,” says Matthew. The house occupies an elevated position overlooking the valley with exceptional views across Gouthwaite reservoir.Accessed by a long sweeping private driveway, Longside House, which has oil-fired, multi-zone heating, has been modernised while retaining its period charm. There is a large garden and parking for up to 20 vehicles.

A spokesman for Dacre Son and Hartley estate agents said: “The size and versatility of the property would appeal to family buyers or provide optional holiday let or bed and breakfast business opportunities.”The neighbouring three bedroom detached cottage is also available to buy separately.
