Anti-aging boom among Leeds millennials
Increasing numbers of younger adults are being inspired by social media to seek anti-ageing and skincare treatments.
Beauty bloggers, YouTube make-up tutorials and celebrity Instagram feeds are said to be fuelling a shift towards more people looking for ‘fixes’ to improve their skin and iron out blemishes.
Now leading skincare specialist Victoria Martin, one of the directors of Leeds-based Serenity Aesthetics, is urging anyone seeking treatments to take care to ensure they get the right results.
Ms Martin, an Aesthetic specialist nurse, says certain low-quality products may promise more than they deliver and could leave skin damaged and requiring treatment by professional, qualified practitioners at Serenity Aesthetics.
She recommends anyone looking to boost their skin to carry out careful research first and be aware that internet images of celebrities can be deceiving.
“We are used to helping young people who have acne and other skin related issues and want to take steps to improve their skin,” she said. “But recently we’ve seen an increase in young people who want anti-aging treatments such as Botox and fillers.
“It’s really important that all ages ensure they are receiving good treatment that provides natural-looking results.”
Non-surgical anti-aging treatments have become increasingly popular as technology evolves and products which have undergone thorough scientific testing show improved results.
Among the most popular treatments are lip and dermal fillers which can help plump up areas of the face and lips which have lost naturally occurring Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Botox injections which help to relax wrinkles, and skin peels which provide a non-invasive solution to helping reduce the signs of ageing, acne scarring and unwanted pigmentation.
Worryingly, however, some over the counter treatments administered by people without full training may end up leaving people out of pocket for a product that has harmed their skin and needing extra treatment by specialists.
“We are aware of people using home micro-needling which has made scarring worse and they have then had to come to a clinic for help,” added Ms Martin.
“We are careful to take a very holistic approach to skincare, which includes looking at dietary advice and supplements to help boost the skin naturally,” adds Ms Martin.
“We take skin treatment seriously and use very high quality, well-tested products such as Alumier chemical peels and skincare, and create a tailor-made treatment plan to tackle individual skin types.
Serenity Aesthetics offers a wide range of high-quality skin treatments including FDA approved SKinPen microneedling, Fire and Ice Resurfacing Facials, Alumier chemical peels, red vein and facial pigment removal, fillers and Botox.
