This Black Friday shopping event is set to be the biggest ever and the run-up is already proving to be a brilliant time to buy Christmas presents for friends and family, as well as stocking up on clothing, accessories and beauty products that you simply have to have, whether you need them or merely desire them.

As we wait for our favourite shops and shopping centres to reopen after lockdown ends on December 2, online browsing is an excellent way to find ideas and make some early bargain buys for the festive season. Do please make sure you visit and buy from your local independents as soon as they reopen, and many have online stores too (I will showcase independent Yorkshire fashion and beauty businesses in the coming weeks) but today's focus is on our favourite high street stores - the ones that cheer up our towns and cities and employ many local people - and also those online brands that provide us with inspiration and quick fixes delivered straight to our homes.

So, first up. Topshop and Topman have some fantastic money-saving Black Friday deals with up to 50 per cent off full price on clothing including jeans, jumpers, coats and outerwear jackets. Keep checking their website as there are more rather amazing deals promised over the next few days. Space NK will give £25 for every £100 spend from Black Friday, November 27, through to Cyber Monday, November 30. Aveda’s Cyber Weekend offerings will include 25 per cent off gift sets as well as many other products and the brand is available at John Lewis, Look Fantastic and Amazon.

Illamasqua has Black Friday savings of up to 50 per cent, including the fabulous Limited Edition Illamasqua Glam Rock Kit, was £65, now £32.50 - here

Cos, which has a beautiful store at Victoria Leeds, has Black Friday 30 per cent off bargains - my eye was caught by this lovely red merino cape.

Some companies are not taking part in Black Friday as such, but still have some excellent offers on the go. The White Company will be having Black Friday offers but some are under wraps until the event so look out on Black Friday itself on its website.

Marks & Spencer does not specifically do Black Friday deals but has lots of brilliant offers on fashion and beauty typically with 30 per cent off, including some of the Holly Willoughby must-haves such as the black Hiking Block Heel Lace Up Ankle Boots, was £45, now £31.50.
