Double TWO, based in Thornes Lane Wharf Wakefield, has been designing and producing quality shirts since 1940 and has built up a reputation for great quality.

And now the firm is looking at a new chapter with the release of its Autumn-Winter 2021 range which embraces casualwear as well as the more formal shirts it has always been known for.

The Double TWO Lifestyle range encompasses casual shirts, polo shirts, t-shirts, jumpers and hoodies, as well as trousers, shorts and jackets.

Double TWO’s latest collection includes pure cottons, brushed fabric twills and print options with something to suit everyone – including sizes up to 5XL and 23” collar.

“We have new designs and new styles that fit the modern workplace,” explains CEO Peter Batchelor, adding that just as the way we live and work is changing, so is the brand and its products.

“Our shirts can be worn with either jeans or work trousers – we have an eye on the formal, but also offer some fantastic casualwear to suit any lifestyle.”

Originally called the Wakefield Shirt Company, it was set up in 1940 by Isaak Donner and Frank Myers. By 1946, with rationing still in place, it was a key player in the men’s shirt market thanks to a patented design that provided a replacement collar which could easily be sewn into the place of a worn-out collar – which led to the new name of Double TWO.

That spirit of innovation continued into the 1950s when Double TWO teamed up with ICI representative, Dr Rex Winfield, who had spent his time during the war developing a new man-made fibre, Terylene, which would eventually become known as polyester. Working with Dr Winfield, the firm developed the fibre and produced the world’s first man-made fibre shirt.

These days the company is seeing a surge of international interest in its high quality shirts and clothing products online via its website www.doubletwo.co.uk

“We are still pioneering in the way our founders were and have gone from strength to strength,” adds Peter. “With our Lifestyle range of casualwear ranging from Polo Shirts to Puffa Jackets, Double TWO has expanded to accommodate the full range of styles and occasions.

“We’re extremely proud of what we have achieved but at the same time, we are still moving forward and providing modern clothes that suit a modern lifestyle.”
