Spas in Yorkshire reopened this week as part of the second stage of the UK Government’s 2021 four-step roadmap out of lockdown.

Hotels are still closed except for business and essential stays, but some leisure facilities including indoor pools and gyms, hair, beauty, tanning and nail salons, spas and massage parlours are now allowed to open.

Spas have been able to open from Monday, April 12, but not all facilities are available. Steam rooms, saunas, and other types of thermal suites have to remain closed until at least May 17.

Government guidance states that personal care facilities and close-contact services including hair, beauty and nail salons, spas and massage centres (except for steam rooms and saunas), holistic therapy (including acupuncture, homeopathy, and reflexology) and tanning salons can now reopen for the second stage of the roadmap, with Covid-secure measures in place including social distancing, regular cleaning regimes, use of PPE, and bookable slots.

Hot tubs, whirlpool baths and hydrotherapy pools and indoor gyms were also permitted to reopen from April 12.

Close-contact services such as manicures, massages and facials are now allowed, as long as the therapist is wearing the required PPE (visors, masks) and measures such as perspex screens and hand sanitisation are used where possible.

Hotel stays are not permitted until May 17. Self-catering stays are now permitted so hotels that offer self-contained cottages, lodges, huts and cabins on-site can provide overnight stays. Note that you can only mix with one other household indoors.
