Although some of these weather warnings are coming to an end on Thursday morning (21 Jan), they are still leaving snow and icy conditions in their wake.

Heavy rain, snow and cold temperatures

The Met Office forecast for Thursday says it will be “Colder and brighter than yesterday for most. Some wintry showers about too, mainly in the north and west, but also some sunny spells.”

It will be cloudier over northeast Scotland where there will be “some heavy rain and snow,” adds the Met Office. It will also be windy, especially in the north and east.

Thursday evening will see evening rain and snow over northeastern Scotland, which will then give way to showers.

What will the weather be like this weekend?

Wintry conditions will remain in place for some areas over the weekend, with temperatures continuing to remain low.

“Cold with further wintry showers in the north, perhaps some more organised rain, sleet and snow across the south at times. Widespread overnight frost but sunshine for many by day,” said the Met Office.

Looking further ahead to next week, it will remain unsettled with north-westerly winds probable, which will bring frequent showers and outbreaks of rain, particularly to the north and west.

The Met Office said: “This will likely fall as snow over high ground and may at times to lower levels too. Windy, especially in the north.”
