A1 reopens near Leeming Bar 32 hours after abnormal load broke down

The A1 motorway reopened near Leeming Bar this morning after almost 32 hours of closures caused by the breakdown of a transporter carrying a 57 tonne bridge joint.

The sheer scale of the load created a logistical nightmare for recovery teams who had to draft in a 120 tonne crane to help lift the bridge joint onto a second transporter vehicle.
