A171 reopens after 'serious collision' involving motorbike and van

The A171 has reopened after a "serious collision" near Ugthorpe involving a van and a motorbike.

The motorcycle rider was taken to James Cook Hospital by air ambulance following the crash which happened around noon yesterday.

Police closed the road for around five hours and advised motorists to avoid the area.

The road is the main link between Whitby and Teesside and its closure on the hottest day of the year led to major disruption.
