Ancient woods receive money from trust fund
WOODS which provided food and fuel for a Yorkshire castle for almost 1,000 years are to benefit from an £80,000 windfall.
Skipton Woods, a 37-acre woodland surrounding Skipton Castle, are managed by the Woodland Trust on a lease from the castle.
The trust has received £80,000 from Yorwaste and the Heritage Lottery Fund which will pay for “discovery days” which will enable 1,200 children to visit the woods, with curriculum support given to teachers.
A new bridge will be installed at Eller Beck and new signs will also be put up.
