Anxious Lotto winner hid ticket under carpet

Lotto millionaire Neil Jones was so worried he would lose his winning ticket that he hid it under his carpet. The self-employed tiler and his partner Julie Kirkham, 43, above, landed £2,446,436 after hitting the jackpot in last Wednesday's draw.

Mr Jones, 47, from Staffordshire, said the win made him very anxious. He said: "At first I thought we had won 10, and then I realised we had all six numbers. I called to Julie to come and check the ticket too as my hands were shaking so much but she thought I was pulling her leg.

"After we called Camelot, I kept the ticket in my wallet but I was nervous that I might lose it, so I put it in an envelope, inside a Christmas card under the carpet for safe keeping. I wanted to check it was still there but I was worried that if I kept unfolding and folding the ticket, you might not be able to read the numbers any more."
