Ambassadors from the arts, community and the council made Hull’s final presentation to an independent panel in the past few weeks and will today gather in the city’s Truck Theatre to watch the announcement live on a big screen.

Hull will be in the running against Swansea, Dundee and Leicester.

Those behind the bid have highlighted the poetry of Philip Larkin and acting prowess of Sir Tom Courtenay in a promotional video which was presented to judges. The council has pledged a £15m programme of events if is successful.
