Arts and minds

Art which has helped people with mental health problems is being displayed in a Leeds city centre shopping centre.

The exhibition at The Light includes work by Claire Midgeley, pictured, a mother-of-two who has suffered with depression. The 28-year-old said: “I really enjoy being creative as I have found it to be a great way of expressing myself. Creating art is my hobby and it can help lift my mood and help me to feel positive.”

The art show has been organised by Arts and Minds, which promotes the use of art as an aid to recovery from mental health problems.

The organisation’s development manager Linda Boyles said: “Our exhibitions give our members the chance to show their talent and potentially sell their work.

“Arts and Minds seek to challenge the stigma of mental illness and show how creative and productive people with experience of mental ill-health can be.”

The Arts and Minds exhibition is open from 10am to 7pm daily until Sunday. Picture: Tony Johnson.
