Arts festival starts next week

Youth dance company JMUpstart, pictured, are among the performers showcasing their talents at this year's Bridlington Arts Festival, which starts with a free launch night at Bridlington Spa on Wednesday next week.

The drama festival at the Spotlight Theatre, West Street starts the following evening with performances from local schools and amateur groups. Indigo Moon Theatre will perform their shadow puppet production of Alice and The White Rabbit on Saturday May 22 at 7pm.

The main events continue at the newly-refurbished Spa with Weepie by Performance Anxiety, featuring Bridlington's own Jonny Collis-Scurl, the Unite 2010 Platform Dance event, the East Riding Schools Showcase and A Night to Remember by students of Bridlington's performing arts school, Stage Door Academy. JMUpstart – an undergraduate dance company of nine students from Liverpool John Moores University – will be performing for one night only at the Spa on May 27.

The free town centre Streetfest takes place on the Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, with a parade and Beachfest on the Sunday evening.
