Band members escape unscathed after Autobahn crash

A LEEDS band had a lucky escape when they survived unscathed from a car crash on the Autobahn in Germany.

All four members of metal band Sunwolf walked away from the Citroen people carrier they were travelling in crashed near Dresden on Sunday morning as they drove to a concert as part of their European tour.

The van crashed in to a roadside barrier before it flipped over after it aquaplaned.

Band member Matt Carrington, 27, of Hyde Park, Leeds, said: “It was terrifying. We had a roof box which took some of the impact, which is why we didn’t get crushed when it flipped over. Some people were still asleep when it tipped over.

“Luckily it was on the hard shoulder so we didn’t get hit by oncoming traffic, but it was close.”

With their Citroen wrecked, the band faced being stuck in a small town near Dresden after they were quoted huge sums to replace the vehicle.

In a bid to get home they launched an appeal for help via their Facebook page, garnering a response from a man living in Berlin who offered to take them home free.

The band were yesterday hoping to back on the road again soon. Mr Carrington, who is studying at Leeds Metropolitan University, said: “As far as I know he is on route for us now.”
