Band tops FA Cup chart

FOOTBALL fans have chosen a song by a Yorkshire band as the official anthem of the FA Cup after a battle of the bands-style competition held during the tournament’s early stages.

Shine the Light by Sheffield-based Reverend and The Makers was yesterday named the winner by the FA, after the song won 34 per cent of the votes cast.

Frontman Jon McClure said: “We said before this that we’d prefer our track to become the official FA Cup Anthem than to be a Number 1.

“It genuinely means that much to us, and we can’t thank our fans and all the people who voted for us enough.”

The song will be performed by the band ahead of the FA Cup final, this Saturday at Wembley stadium.
