Bankers to share £8bn
Nearly 6,000 UK employees at US banking giant Goldman Sachs are among staff sharing out
£8.1bn in pay and bonuses for 2012.
The total pay package – based on its global headcount - equates to an average of £249,977 for each employee and is six per cent higher than in 2011.
Goldman was this week forced to back down on plans to defer its bonus payments to UK staff, which would have allowed them to benefit from the cut in the top rate of income tax from 50p to 45p in the new financial year.
Staff will find out in the next few days the size of their bonuses for 2012 will be.
Some of them are expecting to receive millions of pounds.
