Bard of Barnsley gives helping hand

Visitors to a local museum will be able to spot a familiar face greeting those who come through its doors.

Darfield Museum, at Darfield, Barnsley, is entirely volunteer run and has added Barnsley Bard, Ian McMillan, who is a lifelong resident of Darfield, to its regular team of volunteers.

Ian and his wife Catherine will be next in the museum on Saturday, when Ian will be front of house in the entrance shop, meeting, greeting and selling to all who come through the door, while Catherine will be assisting in the museum’s small café.

Geoffrey Hutchinson, chairman, said: “The museum is always happy to welcome new volunteers and we are delighted to welcome Ian and Catherine.

“We are always looking for new volunteers, particularly at the moment for anyone who would care to take part in practical small maintenance work – reasonable do-it-yourself skills are the level looked for. Anyone interested is invited to get in touch with me,” Mr Hutchinson added.

The museum, situated at the junction of School Street, Church Street and Vicar Road, is open at present on Saturdays 10am-2pm and Wednesdays 1pm-4pm.
