Beauty spot friends renovate benches

VOLUNTEERS in Sheffield are busy revamping all the benches in the Porter Valley, one of the city's most popular beauty spots.

The Friends of the Porter Valley have secured 1,500 from Sheffield Council to install three new benches near the Forge Dam cafe and are also carrying out improvements to seats elsewhere.

Ann le Sage, chairman of the Friends group, said: "The Friends intend to renovate all the benches throughout the Porter Valley and made a start last week with nine in Endcliffe Park and eight more around Forge Dam.

"So watch out over the summer for grubby but happy volunteers sanding down and applying teak oil, and repainting some of the very dilapidated green-painted benches at Forge Dam.

"People love visiting the Porter Valley parks and Forge Dam park in particular is in need of improvements. We were very grateful to get the support of the community assembly for this work to enhance the area."
