Beckham still draws crowds as author

DAVID Beckham may have retired from football, but his star quality remains undimmed.

The former England captain drew huge crowds to London’s West End yesterday when he was at a book-signing at the Piccadilly branch of Waterstones.

Fans camped out overnight before queuing to get a copy of the book signed by the ex-Manchester United winger, who is married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.

Hundreds of people were waiting outside the London store more than two hours before it was due to open in the hope of meeting Beckham.

The book, simply titles David Beckham, has sold 27,000 copies since its release on October 31, according to the latest figures from thebookseller.com.

The memoir of Beckham’s former manager at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, has sold 568,000 copies since October 24.

Beckham, 38, who was capped 115 times for England and played for United, Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy as well as AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in a long and glittering career, retired at the end of last season.
