Bid to cut red tape for the bereaved

A NEW service in Doncaster aims to cut the amount of red-tape for bereaved families.

According to Doncaster Council, the “Tell Us Once” service, to be launched on Thursday, January 26, will mean that people registering a death can expect to contact the Government seven fewer times when compared to previous arrangements.

A spokesman for the authority said: “The Tell Us Once service, being delivered in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, will enable a registrar to work through a much easier notification process with recently bereaved residents at the same time as registering a death.

“Residents will be told what information they need to bring with them to access this service when they book their appointment with the Registrar and the whole process, including registration of the death, will take around 40 minutes.”

Coun Mark Thompson added: “When a death happens in a family, we understand that the last thing anybody wants to be doing is dealing with administration.”

The service will cover issues such as benefits, driving licences, tax credits, library membership and being on the electoral roll.
