A man has died and a woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following an accident on the A174 at Staithes in North Yorkshire.

The crash happened at the junction with Cowbar Farm at around 3.35pm on Thursday, October 1, and involved a blue Volkswagen Passat.

The biker has been named by police as 70-year-old Derek Graham, from the Loftus area.

Mr Graham leaves behind a partner, two brothers and a sister.

In a statement, his family said they are devastated by their loss and would like to ask for privacy at this extremely difficult time so that they can grieve.

The driver of the Passat, a woman who is also aged in her seventies, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and she has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage which could assist the investigation is asked to contact Sergeant Neil Yates from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 160947.
