Body found in search for pensioner

A BODY thought to be that of a pensioner who vanished more than a fortnight ago has been found on moorland.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed the search for Barbara Colling had been called off after a gamekeeper found the body on Hawnby Moor, near Helmsley, at 10.45am yesterday.

Mrs Colling, 68, of Helmsley, was last seen walking from her home town towards Stokesley at about 9.30am on January 28. Members of the local community, park rangers from the North York Moors National Park and members of search and rescue teams helped in the police operation to locate the dementia sufferer.

A police spokesman said the body had yet to be formally identified, but added that Mrs Colling’s relatives had been informed of the discovery.
