Booming Brazil is the target for Humber trade mission

A trade mission to Brazil aims to capture new business opportunities being thrown up by the world’s second fastest-growing economy.

Firms considering joining the mission on June 22 are being told the country has “the oil, the money and they’re investing in infrastructure”.

The Brazilian government is pumping huge amounts of money into the north-eastern Pernambuco region of the country, using oil revenues from the south.

Recife, the trade mission venue, is booming even by Brazilian standards. Its huge port and industrial complex is looking to expand 20 times,

David Lilley, international trade team adviser manager for UK Trade & Investment, said: “With GDP growth estimated to be four per cent in 2012 and the football World Cup in 2014, Brazil is investing significant sums in its infrastructure.

“Indeed there is a massive amount of activity across most sectors which offers great export opportunities for local companies.

“Some have already grasped these opportunities but many more, unfortunately, haven’t.

“Brazil will be big spenders over the next five years so a window of opportunity is open, but it won’t last for ever and if we don’t meet the current demand our global competitors will.”

With funding from UKTI, the cost of the five-day mission being led by Team Humber Marine Alliance, along with World Trade Centre Hull & Humber to firms will be less than £1,000. Contact Hannah Brigham on 07912 485725 or email [email protected]
