Broughton Hall Tough Mudder: Obstacle course tests your grit - and the power of your washing machine

Thousands of runners got down and dirty in the muddiest of assault courses at Broughton Hall in Skipton this weekend, the only Tough Mudder UK event in Yorkshire this summer.
The team-orientated 10-mile obstacle course is designed to not only to test physical strength but also mental grit. Not to mention challenging your washing machine.

The challenges included the ‘Kiss of Mud’, where participants scramble underneath tangled rows of barbed wire over slushy cold mud - and less than 18 inches of clearance above you.
The final task between runners and a hot shower was passing through ‘Electroshock Therapy’, a field of dangling wires that delivers a punch at 10,000 volts should you get caught up.
New this year was the Tough Mudder Half, a five-mile event format featuring over a dozen signature obstacles.
Children also got in on the act in the ‘Mini Mudder’ a specially-designed course for young people.
