The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) is consulting its 177,000 members under a review, and could widen its remit to campaign on issues such as pub heritage and foreign beer.

Michael Hardman, one of Camra’s founders, said: “This could mark a fundamental turning point for the Campaign for Real Ale.

“So fundamental, it may no longer continue as the Campaign for Real Ale and instead become a campaign for pubs, or a campaign for all drinkers.”

A decision will be made in April next year.

Camra was founded in 1971 in Kerry, Ireland and is now the largest single-isse consumer group in the entire country.
