A WEST YORKSHIRE cathedral is the latest venue to add to Cine North’s network of unusual sites offering cinema screenings.

Wakefield Cathedral will show Alan Rickman’s period drama A Little Chaos on Sunday October 11, the first Cine North screening at the venue.

The latest season of screenings got underway this week at the network of 23 rural and community venues across Yorkshire, from village halls and arts centres to mills.

Screening run until January, and feature a diverse selection of films chosen by and presented in partnership with local venues for their communities.

Cine North Project Manager Rachel McWatt said: “2015 has been a fantastic year for cinema, so we’re blessed with a really exciting selection of films this season, ranging from the latest hit dramas and documentaries, as well as some silent classics from the archives.

“We are particularly delighted to present some real gems filmed in Yorkshire screening this season, meaning some audiences can expect to spot their local landscape on the big screen - look out for A Royal Night Out, Testament of Youth and Get Santa.”

Cine North was established in 2010 as one of three rural pilot initiatives supported by the British Film Institute to address limited cinema provision in North Yorkshire, which was then the largest geographical area in the UK with the fewest cinema screens. Since then, the project has expanded to serve areas in West and East Yorkshire and Cumbria.
