FAST Food outlets in Leeds city centre cause more public concern than '˜sex venues' and pubs, bars and clubs a councillor told a council licensing committee meeting.

Coun Jack Dunn (Labour/Ardsley and Robin Hood), raised concerns about the Boar Lane/Briggate McDonald’s, where a 26-year-old man was injured after a fight broke out last month.

Cou Dunn told today’s meeting: “Looking at the establishments we have got in the city centre, the problems don’t seem to be coming from the sex venues or the alcohol led venues, but the public concern appears to be the fast food outlets like McDonald’s on Boar Lane, and that has been the subject of police concern too. What is being done alongside the police to address this please?”

Leeds City Council’s licensing section head Nicola Raper, said: “There has been a lot of work done there between agencies - cleansing, police, ourselves and the anti-social behavior team with the operators of that McDonald’s. It has been better run over the last six months. They have put measures in place to put security inside and outside. They have a maximum capacity of people allowed in the premises and a queuing system that is stopping conflict. We have had no reports from police of late.” She said there had been no problems reported at other city centre takeaways.

A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment after a fight broke out at McDonald’s on Boar Lane/Briggate at around 4pm on January 5. Police cordoned of the shop and three men were arrested.
