Comeback for Bradford’s stalled Westfield shops scheme

BRADFORD’S stalled £320m Broadway shopping scheme is set to be revived when the developer has made some changes to the original plans.

Developer Westfield will shortly submit a planning application for a revised scheme. The changes, still being worked upon, have yet to be made public.

Westfield said it would ask people their views on the new proposals at an exhibition at the Midland Hotel, Bradford on July 1 and 2.

Company spokesman Duncan Bower said: “The amendments to the scheme are still being worked through and the details will be announced as soon as possible; however, the fundamentals of the project remain the same. This scheme will provide a high quality shopping environment anchored by major national retailers and will provide a major boost to the local economy.”

Council leader Ian Greenwood said: “This is another significant step towards delivering a shopping centre at the Broadway site and I welcome the progress being made by Westfield.”

The original plans included 171 apartments, offices and a hotel.
