Company to cut 136 jobs as office shuts

THE financial outsourcing firm HML is to close its Scarborough office, with the loss of 136 jobs.

The company, a subsidiary of Skipton Building Society, confirmed yesterday it was reducing its offices from five to four. In total, 164 jobs will go.

Chief executive Brian Brodie said: "We understand the personal impact on staff and have not taken the decision lightly, however we hope our clients and employees will recognise that as a responsible business we must make tough decisions that are in the long-term best interest of the majority of our employees."

He blamed fixed costs and under-capacity for the decision to close the Scarborough site. Seventeen jobs will go at the Skipton head office and 11 across the firm's other three sites in Glasgow, Derry and Burnley.
