Craven District Council is consulting on plans to create a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) - a prohibition order which could allow the authority to issue on-the-spot fines.

If passed, the PSPO would relate to the Coach Street Car Park in Skipton

“A number of local residents have complained about the noise and other problems when vehicles have been driven recklessly or used to cause other nuisance such as playing loud music and disturbing residents and their families’ enjoyment of their homes, during evenings in particular,” said Coun John Dawson, ward member for Skipton north.

The consultation papers are available to view on the authority’s website until the close on July 22, and nearby residents and businesses will be written to.

PSPOs are designed to deal with a particular nuisance or problem in a set area, so long as the council can prove the behaviour is persistent and detrimental to the local community’s quality of life.
