Council wins praise over
cuts handling

EAST RIDING Council has been praised for “strong financial management”, amid swingeing public sector cutbacks.

An external team of local government assessors led by Steve Robinson, chief executive from Cheshire West and Chester Council, was invited to look at work done by East Riding Council.

A report praised the political and managerial leadership of the council and said it was at the “leading edge” of being prepared to deal with floods.

Mr Robinson said there were many services that the rest of local government could emulate. He added: “Nevertheless, in these challenging times for public services, we identified some areas where we believe the council can take action to make valuable contributions, particularly around areas of economic growth and equipping local people with the right skills.”
