Crew unhurt after second mid-air drama

BOTH occupants of a light aircraft walked away unharmed after the second mid-air drama involving small planes in the region in two days.

In the latest incident, an aircraft landed at Humberside Airport just before 7pm on Sunday without its front wheel and both occupants managed to get out unaided as firefighters stood by.

The incident happened 24 hours after another light aircraft crash-landed in a field in Leeds.

Fire crews were called to that emergency landing by controllers at Leeds Bradford Airport, and all four occupants had got out safely before they arrived.

The aircraft had suffered minor damage but was not leaking fuel.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said both incidents would have been reported to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch, which may investigate.

Nic Stevenson, spokesman for the CAA, said: “Both sound fairly serious and may be investigated by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch. If not, we may well decide to investigate or at least have a look and talk to the pilots to see if any lessons can be learned.

“The AAIB would have been notified almost immediately.”
