Boy in fatal accident named

Police have this afternoon named a teenage boy who died after a car hit a wall and a telegraph pole in Bradford.

Saliq Amjad Malik, 15, who was a passenger in the red Volkswagen GTI, died in hospital after the accident in Gilpin Street yesterday morning.

Another 15-year-old was seriously injured but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 17-year-old, believed to be driving, was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.

Police are appealing for the occupants of a purple or maroon Peugot to contact them.

PC Andrew McManus, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “A young boy has tragically lost his life as a result of this collision, so I am appealing to the occupants of this Peugot or anyone else who might have witnessed the movements of the Golf to contact myself or Sgt Quinn, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, on 101.”
