Bradford police sergeant appears in court charged with rape and sexual assault

A Bradford police sergeant has appeared in court charged with rape and sexual assault.

Sergeant Ben Lister, who works for West Yorkshire Police, appeared at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.

He is charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault alleged to have taken place on August 29, 2016.

Lister, 35, of Bradford, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address and nationality.

No pleas were entered.

He will appear at Bradford Crown Court on April 21.

Lister was granted unconditional bail.

He is currently suspended from the force.
