Callous thieves steal war medals during raid

Police in Wakefield are appealing for information after World War Two medals were stolen in a burglary.

The medals, which belonged to the victim’s father, were taken when thieves targeted a house on Winden Close, Calder Grove in Wakefield, between March 11 and 12.

One of the medals was the African Star, which has an 8th army bar across it.

In total four medals were stolen among other items including the 69-year-old victim’s engagement ring, West Yorkshire Police said yesterday.

Det Cons Helen Robinson, of Wakefield CID, said: “The medals were of great sentimental value to the victim as well as her engagement ring and are completely irreplaceable. They are distinctive items and would stand out if they were being offered for sale.

“I would like to hear from anyone who has any information that could assist with our investigation.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact myself at Wakefield CID, via 101 quoting reference 13160108811 or all Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
