Officers discovered the large-scale cannabis operation in an industrial building in Bankgate Mills in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield.

Neighbourhood policing officers went to the building on Tuesday, May 5 after a member of public reporter suspicious activity.

About 500 cannabis plants were found.

Forensic investigations were carried out throughout the day at the building.

Three men aged 23, 27 and 34 were arrested on suspicion of the production of drugs.

They remain in police custody.

Inspector Vanessa Briggs of the Kirklees Rural NPT, said: “We are continuing our investigations into the discovery of this clearly very sizeable cannabis factory and continue to hold three men in connection with it.

“Officers recovered around 500 plants from the facility over the course of Tuesday and we will now be destroying the grow we have seized.

“Yesterday’s seizure again demonstrates that we do act on community intelligence and information and I want to thank residents who get in contact with us.

“It’s really important that people continue to let us know about suspected drugs offences and other suspected criminal activity in their communities and we continue to urge them to get in touch.

“I can promise that we do look into all intelligence we receive, and where the evidence is there, we will act.”
