Father accused over son’s fatal electric shock

Police are investigating after thieves cut down overhead power cables in North Yorkshire, leaving more than 200 homes in darkness.

Around 640 meters of cable weighing around one tonne was stolen from Weeland Road, Hensall, at around 1.50pm on Wednesday.

The alarm was raised by a dog walker who came across cables carrying 11,000 volts of electricity hanging from telegraph poles. He contacted Northern Power Grid, who reported the incident to police. The theft knocked out the electricity supply to 236 customers in the village for eight hours until power was restored.
