Gun-toting brother and sister serving life sentences over separate gang shootings

A gun-toting brother and his sister will spend at least 50 years behind bars after carrying out a string of shootings.

In separate attacks, Stephen Dunford, 31, opened fire on a group of children, and his sister Demi, 29, masterminded a cold-blooded murder. Both are serving life sentences for their crimes.

Demi, of Derby Street, Sheffield, was jailed for a minimum of 31 years last week over a murder she orchestrated in 2023.

She and three men embroiled in her deadly plan were all found guilty of murder in December 2025 following a trial.

Their sentencing hearing saw them locked up for a total of 118 years between them.

Demi, the mastermind behind the killing, had been at war with drug dealer Abdullah Hassan when she plotted his death.

She organised the "cold blooded, targeted shooting and murder", jurors were told by prosecutor Stephen Wood KC.

Abdullah, 25, was shot in an incident in Sheffield, in the early hours of April 9, 2023.

He was lured out of his flat in the dead of night before figures lying in wait "emerged from the shadows" and gunned him down.

Abdullah had received a call from someone pretending to want to buy drugs from him.

Demi organised the hit and recruited Alex Taff, 31, Osai Williams, 29 and Andrew Horton, 47, to help her execute the plan.

They were all sentenced last week on the basis that - although only one person pulled the trigger - they were all involved.

Before the fatal shooting, Demi was already known to South Yorkshire Police. In 2020, she had arranged to torch vehicles used in a series of drive-by shootings in Sheffield.

Demi's brother, the 'dangerous' killer Stephen Dunford, took aim at the innocent kids in Sheffield, in 2020. They had met up ahead of a trip to the Meadowhall shopping centre.

Stephen was looking for rival gang members when he opened fire indiscriminately - hitting a 12-year-old boy in his thigh and narrowly missing another youngster's head and neck by just centimetres.

There was another gang member in the car also brandishing a gun at the time.

Dunford, of Fellbrigg Road, Sheffield, was found guilty of attempted murder and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life over the incident.

He was also convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life over another shooting two days earlier.

When he was jailed for a minimum of 19 years in 2020 over the attempted murder, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC described Dunford as posing an "immense danger" to the public.

He said: "I have no idea when or if it will ever be safe to release you."

In 2022, he was sentenced for killing a woman by dangerous driving following a collision dating back to 2018.

He drove a grey Fiat Punto at speed through a red traffic light in Sheffield whilst under the influence of drugs, before crashing into Naomi Colcomb.

The 28-year-old suffered catastrophic injuries and died at the scene. Stephen fled the scene and the Punto was later found on fire.

After admitting causing death by dangerous driving, he was handed a six-year sentence, which runs concurrently to the life sentence.
