Man arrested after driver flees crash where passenger died

A DRIVER is suspected of fleeing the scene after a crash which left a man dead in South Yorkshire early yesterday morning.

The man who died was aged 28 and from Doncaster. He is thought to have been a passenger in a Ford Mondeo which left the A1 northbound carriageway and went down an embankment before hitting a tree.

Emergency services found the fatally injured man out of the vehicle but it is believed he had been a passenger.

The Mondeo driver was reported to have left the scene but investigators later arrrested a 26- year-old man from Doncaster on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and last night he was detained at a Doncaster police station.

Police said he did not appear to have sustained any serious injuries.
