Man arrested after student stabbed in 'random attack' in Leeds street

A man has been arrested after a student was stabbed in a "random attack" in a Leeds street.

It happened on St Michael's Lane in Headingley on Tuesday, May 19 as the 19-year-old victim was returning home after visiting a shop .

He was stabbed in the back near to the junction with Newport View and Gate D of Headingley Stadium, at about 8.30pm.

Following a public appeal for information, a 33-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, May 21.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in custody.

Enquiries are ongoing.
