A 34-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Sheffield last week.

Gavin Bennett, of Maun Way, Firth Park, will appear in Sheffield Magistrates Court today, charged with attempted murder, burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

A 33-year-old man, who was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary, has been released in relation to this incident but bailed for other matters.

Gunshots were reported at about 2pm in the Penistone Road area on January 20.

Police cordoned off part of the road for several hours, through rush hour, while investigations were carried out.

A 25-year-old man was admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. He has since been discharged.
