Man killed after car hits tree near Harrogate

A man has been killed following a car crash near Harrogate.

Harrogate Police are appealing for vital witnesses to come forward following the fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the B6165 at Nidd near Harrogate at 5.20pm on Friday.

The victim was a local man aged 44, the sole occupant in a silver Mitsubishi Coupe travelling from the direction of Knaresborough towards Ripley.

Whilst travelling along the road the vehicle lost control and left the road colliding with a tree.

Traffic Constable Ken Riley, said: “We are particularly interested in contacting a male who stopped at the scene and offered to disconnect the battery on the Mitsubishi following the collision, this person may have been the first at the scene. “Witnesses have also described the silver coupe overtaking a number of vehicles prior to the incident on the journey from Knaresborough and I am particularly keen to speak with any of the occupants of those vehicles”

Police said they would not in a position to name the deceased at this stage as family members are still being contacted.
